Calling All Gentlemen

We’re about halfway through our little marketing campaign on Book Cave, FB/Instagram and Amazon.

Not gonna lie here….we haven’t made a single Kindle sale. Not one. I am not surprised but I am a bit deflated. I haven’t checked the other retailers, I suppose I could be surprised over there.

Probably not as surprised as when I looked at the FB (Meta) breakdown for how my little campaign is doing there. Amazon doesn’t really let you do that, not as much as FB anyway. It’s very different. We’ll get to that in a minute I guess.

Years and years ago, I ran a FB…only FB that’s all it was way back then….campaign for “Heart”. I can’t remember exactly how it did, I imagine I could look it up, but, when I clicked on the current campaign I saw nothing had changed and I’m baffled by it.

Those are the breakdowns by age and gender for the first part of our Meta campaign. BTW, Amazon does not let you do this.

I never know who my ‘target audience’ is. Face it, my stuff is odd. None of it fits in a nice little box. I try very hard to include everyone who might want to look at it. So for age and gender I selected Men and Women between 21 and 64. I always think it’s ‘nice to think of the guys’ when I do it. After all, the vast majority of the people I have heard from directly or left reviews for my stuff are female. So, I always figure that’s the ‘gender’ part of my equation.

Yet, if you’re reading along, you’ll see I’m wrong. So far, my biggest draw has been men between 55-64. They are followed very closely by men 45-54.

Now, none of them bothered to kick me the $.35 (that’s what I get off a $.99 sale on Kindle, I get a little bit more if you’re kind enough to buy on any other retailer.) Yet, they clicked the Kindle link attached to the ad. How many more may have clicked the other links within the ad I don’t know, like I said, I haven’t gone over to Draft2Digital to take a look and I don’t think their reports update that fast.

Before I go further, here’s my Question of the Day: Gentlemen, what are you seeing in this book?

It’s not that it’s “not for you”, sure it is, go for it. Please!

I’m just surprised that you so greatly outnumber the women.

Maybe this is one of those things that’s actually like “for you”? Like comic books? (I won’t get into that story, you’ll get highly insulted.) I’m just saying there are genres of books and movies and TV that seem to be more “for” one group or another. So, is this epic fantasy thing The Realm of Men?

Did I stumble into that. After all, I’ve never read so much as “Lord of the Rings” so I really don’t know I have greatly enjoyed the DnD video games of yester year but that and the movies are as far as I got with anything that might be considered ‘fantasy’. The entire Of War Series is just On the Fly.

I’m not surprised by the age groups, I knew late Boomers and GenX would be my heavy hitters. The rest are just too…well…they’re just too….(insert your own word here)…to even have an inkling of a desire to click a link like that.

I am surprised by this

Hello Canada! How are you?

With another click I can see that we are having good visibility all over the world.

(Again, Amazon will not let you do this.)

But no sales.

I know that.

If this was free on Kindle, I’d be at hundreds of downloads for at least the first 2 books in the series by now. I know that because I’ve done that. You know what happened? People expected to get every other book in the series free too.

Sorry, I think I’m worth the $.35 I’m going to squeeze out of all this.

I mean, you know, the book is good. It has awesome genuine reviews. (Yeah, some BS reviews on GoodReads, I know they’re there, but that site is such a friggin’ mess, I don’t pay attention to it.) The Amazon page looks good, I’ve worked hard on it since it opened, you know when MobiBooks sold-out and became Kindle. I honestly don’t understand why they won’t kick “Heart” the $.99. I don’t get it.

Oh well, I am throwing this around FB (mostly because I’m comfortable there) and on Instagram and TikTok. I’ll keep the visibility up until this is over. I’ll be back then with the final breakdown of who saw/click on what. I’m sure I will not have any sales to report. That’s a bummer. But…that’s The Game too.

I’d put up pics of what happens of on Amazon, and I’ll probably do that at the end, but it’s not very interesting. At all.

If nothing else, I’ll get a better sense of what my ‘target audience’ is for Of War.

That reminds me: Gentlemen, if you please, I really would love your answers here. I’m so happy to have you but I’m simply girl and your presence baffles me. If you’d just step up and say “hello”, I would very appreciate it.

Awww, c’mon, you didn’t think you were getting away without it, did you? Show an old lady some love, kick her $.35, and buy a book. You like reading my insanity here, imagine how much more colorful it is in a novel.
