Lucifer Returns To Eden

Lucifer is unceremoniously yanked out of Hell by his Father so he can return to his old job in the Garden of Eden. When he arrives, broken, battered, and bleeding, he falls into the arms of Eve who is unsure about seeing her old lover again as are the people now living in a dying paradise.

Tasked with returning the Sacred Trees of Life and Knowledge to flourishing bounty once more, Lucifer struggles to learn his new place in his old home. Yet, he hasn’t been placed there solely to tend the Garden. His son, Cain, is on the way with murder and destruction on his mind.

Having lived, cursed by God, for eons, Cain Enoch has made quite a name for himself and amassed a fortune that would make even his Grandfather envious and with it he’ll stop at nothing to find Eden and destroy. Why? So he can finally die even though it means taking the Earth, Heaven, and Hell with him.

Slipping her arm around Ares’ waist for a bit of added support as she straightened her back, Eve answered with a bit of strength and pride, “Eden. You have returned to Eden.”

“What kind of a sick joke is this?” Lucifer sneered. “That’s not possible!”

“Possible or not, it is the truth,” Eve said as she kept her stare on his, “and you of all people know it because no one lies to you, do they?”

Lucifer took her up on her offer and turned his powerful Soul Gaze upon her to find that she was not lying and he was in Eden. “How did I get out of Hell?”

Ares pulled Eve away from Lucifer and maneuvered to stand between the two, “You tell us.”

Lucifer didn’t have to turn on his truthful powers to see the raging jealousy in his Cousin’s dark eyes or the love that fueled it. Unable to look at for long he turned to Gabriel again and shrugged his shoulders. But Gabriel was no assistance.

“We’re all waiting, bro, the floor’s all yours. Tell us a story.” Gabriel chimed.

Those gathered nodded in agreement as they pulled out chairs from the table and sat down to listen. Well, alright, if it’s a story you want I’ll give it to you.” He said even though he did not feel confident in his ability to relate the tale in any coherent manner. All he could remember vividly was the blistering heat and the searing pain in his burning feet. He was most grateful that pain was gone and hoped never to feel anything like it again.  Judging from the looks on the faces of relatives he was going to have to do much better than that. Lucifer thought hard as he paced around and talked aloud, “Ok, look, I was in Hell, you know where I live and just doing what I do when, well, I wasn’t anymore. I was standing naked in some Dad forsaken desert.” As he struggled to pull the memories from his head they became clearer but they were far from crystal. He told of what had seemed to him to be a never ending miserable journey of torture burning during the day and freezing at night. But how many days and nights he did not know. He recalled the mirage and told of how he’d broken his nose and cracked his skull while under its lure of illusion. “Then and then….I saw this place. I thought it was a mirage too but it wasn’t. I tried to run but I kept falling until finally I made it and,” his thoughts slowed as his eyes turned to Eve, “And you let me in, you caught me when I fell.”

“I did,” Eve agreed readily.

Persephone, widow of her beloved Hades who’d ruled the Underworld for so long until Chuck replaced him with the usurper standing before her coldly stared at The Devil, “I do not believe you. How did you get out of hell?”

Demeter backed up her Daughter when she too rose “He either knows more than he’s saying or he is just lying.”

“I beg your pardon, Cousins, but I never lie,” Lucifer returned in a voice full of cold pride. “Why would I lie about this anyway?  This is much of a mystery to me as it is to all of you.”

Gabriel sighed as he asked, “So you didn’t make any deals with Dad?”

At first Gabriel’s words were so shocking that all Lucifer could do was stand there staring at him but the absurdity of the question soon caused him to begin laughing, “Are you completely mad? Me? Make a deal with Dear Ol’ Dad? I haven’t even seen that old bastard since he unjustly banished me.”
